December 8, 2015 MUNDGOD: At the invitation of the Geluk International Foundation and the Gaden Tri-Thok Khang, His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday flew from Bangalore to Gaden monastery at Mundgod Tibetan settlement in northern Karnataka.

Arriving at Mundgod around 09:45 AM, His Holiness first visited the main prayer hall of Drepung monastery and the Gaden Lachi. His Holiness then proceeded to inaugurate the Gaden Tri Thok Khang. The Gaden Tri-Thok Khang, which is the Office and Residence of the Gaden Tripa, was newly built in accordance with the wise guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Following the inauguration, His Eminence Rizong Rinpoche, the current Gaden Tri Rinpoche, offered Mandala to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

His Holiness then addressed the gathering, expressing warm regards for the successful completion of the Gaden Tri Thok Khang. “Earlier in Tibet, there was a Gaden Tri Thok Khang. However, we have not been able to rebuild it in exile till now,” His Holiness said.

“Buddha’s teaching is primarily the practice of the three Dharma Trainings and the three collections of scriptures comprising the Sutra, Vinaya and Abhidharma. These are central to the practice of Gelukpa tradition,” His Holiness said.

“Over 56 years have passed since coming into exile. From the earliest days of exile at Buxar, we have faced a lot of hardships in resettling the refugees and reviving the monasteries and other religious centers. However, we have been able to maintain our heritage to some extent,” His Holiness noted, calling for the continued collaboration between various schools of Tibetan Buddhist traditions for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Speaking about the Tibetan political situation, His Holiness said: “I am currently 81 years old and over five decades have already passed since the Tibet issue began. However, the political situation of Tibet is still grim. Therefore, the younger generation of Tibetans should bear responsibility and restore Tibet’s rich religious and cultural heritage.”

“As the generation of Tibetan people is changing, it is even more pertinent at the moment to contemplate on the Tibet issue. Till the day comes when Tibetans inside and outside Tibet reunites, each one of us should fulfill our duties to the best of our abilities,” His Holiness said.

Following lunch at Mundgod, His Holiness flew back to Hunsur.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama Arrives in Hunsur

After successfully completing the inauguration of Gaden Tri Thok Khang at Gaden monastery in Mundgod, His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Gyudmed monastery based in Hunsur Tibetan settlement around 4:35 PM.

His Eminence Sakya Trizin Rinpoche, Ling Choktrul Rinpoche and the former and current abbot of Gyudmed monastery accompanied by various other Rinpoches welcomed His Holiness at the monastery. Others at the welcome reception include Tibetan parliamentarian Geshe Rongpo Lobsang Nyandrak, the Tibetan settlement officer, Sponsors of the monastery and devotees.

Upon arrival, His Holiness the Dalai Lama consecrated, with his blessings, the sand mandala prepared by the monastery. His Holiness then returned to his chambers at the monastery. The teaching series to the general public and devotees are slated to begin from 9 December.
